Among the 209 coun­tries that com­pete for FIFA, the Bhutanese foot­ball team is ranked 209th. How­ever, Bhutan won the first match against Sri Lanka in Colombo where they scored 1-0. In the sec­ond match for FIFA World Cup 2018, Bhutan was vic­to­ri­ous with a score of 2-0 against Sri Lanka.

Some 20,000 peo­ple were present at the Changlim­ithang Sta­dium to watch the match. The ta­bles turned dur­ing the fi­nal min­utes in favour of Bhutan. The only pro­fes­sional player in the team, Chen­cho Gyelt­shen, scored the sec­ond goal against Sri Lanka. Chen­cho is a pi­lot by pro­fes­sion and plays foot­ball as a sport in his free time. The rest of the Bhutanese foot­ball team con­sists of stu­dents. As the world’s low­est ranked foot­ball team, Bhutan will now com­pete against the soc­cer teams of Ja­pan, South Korea and Australia.
