Aid­ing Re­search

Un­der the pro­ject of ‘Cen­tres for Ad­vanced Stud­ies’ (CAS), Pak­istani and Amer­i­can univer­si­ties are go­ing to un­der­take col­lab­o­ra­tive re­search to ad­dress energy, agri­cul­ture and wa­ter con­cerns and chal­lenges. The United Stated Agency for In­ter­na­tional De­vel­op­ment (USAID) will in­vest $127 mil­lion to strengthen Pak­istani univer­si­ties in their re­search ini­tia­tives, which will have a di­rect im­pact on long-term eco­nomic growth and de­vel­op­ment of the coun­try. Par­tic­i­pat­ing univer­si­ties in this in­ter­na­tional pro­gram in­clude Univer­sity of En­gi­neer­ing and Tech­nol­ogy, Peshawar and Ari­zona State Univer­sity (in the energy sec­tor), Univer­sity of Agri­cul­ture, Faisal­abad and Univer­sity of Cal­i­for­nia, Davis (in agri­cul­ture sec­tor) and Na­tional Univer­sity of Science and Tech­nol­ogy (NUST). In ad­di­tion, Mehran Univer­sity of En­gi­neer­ing and Tech­nol­ogy, Jamshoro and Univer­sity of Utah will un­der­take col­lab­o­ra­tive re­search in the wa­ter sec­tor.
