Think about get­ting mar­ried if you re­ally want to build a toi­let at home free of cost. This is what is of­fered by the pro­vin­cial gov­ern­ment in the Ut­tar Pradesh, In­dia. Un­der the ‘lu­cra­tive’ of­fer, new­ly­wed cou­ples will be given a cheque of Rs. 12,000 as a sub­sidy for toi­let con­struc­tion, along with four trees. Un­der the on­go­ing Swachh Bharat Ab­hiyan (Clean In­dia Mis­sion) cam­paign ini­ti­ated by the Gov­ern­ment of In­dia at the na­tional level, con­sis­tent ef­forts are be­ing made to bring about stan­dard san­i­ta­tion fa­cil­i­ties, par­tic­u­larly in those ru­ral ar­eas where a ma­jor­ity of peo­ple tend to defe­cate out in the open. In ad­di­tion, the gift of four saplings to the ben­e­fi­ciary cou­ples also aims to fuel the pace of the tree plan­ta­tion drive and in­crease the over­all green cover man­i­fold.
