provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched a reforestation campaign called “Billion Tree Tsunami ( BTT)” to increase the total forested area from 20% to 22% by planting 1 billion trees by the end of 2018. The project is aimed at restoring deforested land. The KPK government has already planted 18 million trees this year and around 250 million seedlings will be planted in coming months. Under the drive, the government will establish 20,000 nurseries to obtain over 500 million seedlings, while special training will be provided to local youth to help them become ‘eco-preneurs’. Pakistan has one of the highest rates of deforestation in Asia. The mega initiative will help the country reduce flooding and soil erosion, increase water reserves and multiply agricultural production.
