has signed an agreement with the Sri Lankan government to deploy a balloon-based internet network in the country. The project is called ‘Project Loon.’ The solar-powered balloon will float 12 miles above the earth and will provide immediate internet connectivity to the entire island. The sky-mounted Loon is a distinct internet infrastructure. Through this platform, Google will provide an LTE-speed network to local telecom operators in Sri Lanka who will share the signal with users without using any cables. The network is a hundred times faster than fixed, cabled-based internet connections. The project will be completely deployed in 2016 and Sri Lanka will become first South Asian country to use Google’s internet balloons.
