has re­cently con­ducted its first tiger cen­sus, which pos­i­tively re­veals that Bhutan is home to 103 tigers com­pared to the pre­vi­ously es­ti­mated 75 an­i­mals. The sur­vey was con­ducted en­tirely by lo­cal sci­en­tists and wildlife ex­perts who trav­elled to far-flung habi­tats in sub­trop­i­cal forests and snow-capped moun­tains in the north. Record­ing an en­cour­ag­ing in­crease in its tiger pop­u­la­tion in com­par­i­son with other coun­tries in the re­gion, Bhutan has also be­come the fourth South Asian coun­try to con­duct a sur­vey of its wild tigers.
