Bangladeshi government will introduce ‘Kangaroo Care’ in its hospitals and maternity centres across the country to reduce pre-term deaths and disabilities among newborns. The newly-introduced method is a low-cost way to prevent such deaths. Mothers can now carry pre-term babies ‘skin-to-skin’ and stay less in hospitals. Premature babies mostly die due to infections and low body temperature. The mother’s inability to provide breast milk is another reason. Kangaroo Care addresses these factors and
is better than an incubator. Initially, it will be implemented in Dhaka and then in divisional cities.
