Bangladeshi gov­ern­ment will in­tro­duce ‘Kan­ga­roo Care’ in its hos­pi­tals and ma­ter­nity cen­tres across the coun­try to re­duce pre-term deaths and dis­abil­i­ties among new­borns. The newly-in­tro­duced method is a low-cost way to pre­vent such deaths. Moth­ers can now carry pre-term ba­bies ‘skin-to-skin’ and stay less in hos­pi­tals. Pre­ma­ture ba­bies mostly die due to in­fec­tions and low body tem­per­a­ture. The mother’s in­abil­ity to pro­vide breast milk is an­other rea­son. Kan­ga­roo Care ad­dresses th­ese fac­tors and

is bet­ter than an in­cu­ba­tor. Ini­tially, it will be im­ple­mented in Dhaka and then in divi­sional cities.
