gov­ern­ment in Afghanistan has launched a Na­tional Em­ploy­ment Pro­gramme to pro­vide new jobs for its peo­ple. As per the ini­tia­tive, the Afghan gov­ern­ment will build 17 wa­ter dams in its 17 prov­inces within the next 18 months that will pro­vide em­ploy­ment to 25,000 peo­ple. The pro­gramme will also fo­cus on build­ing roads in the ru­ral ar­eas. About 4,700 vil­lages will be cov­ered in the first phase of the pro­gramme and about 15,000 vil­lages will be cov­ered next year. Afghanistan has one of the high­est un­em­ploy­ment ra­tios in the world, where around 30 mil­lion peo­ple live un­der the poverty line.
