Lanka has been ranked at first place in the South Asian Pros­per­ity In­dex. The in­dex is com­piled by the Lon­don-based Le­ga­tum In­sti­tute ev­ery year and rates 142 coun­tries based on their per­for­mance in eight dif­fer­ent sec­tors, in­clud­ing econ­omy, gov­er­nance, ed­u­ca­tion, health, so­cial cap­i­tal, per­sonal free­dom, safety and se­cu­rity, en­trepreneur­ship and op­por­tu­nity. Over­all, Sri Lanka ranks 32nd in the so­cial cap­i­tal sub-in­dex, 65th in econ­omy, 58th in gov­er­nance, and 77th in the health sub-in­dex. Among other South Asian na­tions, Afghanistan has been ranked at 141, Pak­istan at 130, Bangladesh at 103, In­dia at 99 and Nepal at 89.
