ministry of industry and commerce in Sri Lanka will establish a state-of-the-art laboratory to test the quality of processed food products. This is an initiative taken under the Sri Lanka Food Quality Certification Program. The food-testing laboratory will perform over 500 tests a month, including shelf-life testing and salmonella and microbiology analyses. In Sri Lanka, it is mandatory for local and international food manufacturers to obtain Sri Lanka Standards Certification (SLSC). More than 40 per
cent of MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) in the country belong to the food sector.
