is a beautiful city in the Indian state of Gujarat. It will now become a ‘Solar City.’ On an initiative by the Surat Municipal Corporation, rooftop solar power plants will be installed in households, educational institutions, shopping centres, industries and commercial establishments, enabling them to generate power on their own. Generating their own electricity, consumers will be able to feed unused electricity back into the grid and they will be compensated for it. This will also reduce monthly power bills manifold. For setting up a one-kilowatt rooftop solar plant, each household is being provided with a 40 percent subsidy from the government.
