Drive against Dengue

Sri Lankan gov­ern­ment has launched a na­tion­wide cam­paign to erad­i­cate dengue from the coun­try. The cam­paign aims to de­stroy dengue breed­ing ar­eas and ed­u­cate peo­ple about the dis­ease. Streets, parks, shop­ping cen­tres, buses and dump sites are be­ing fu­mi­gated, while in­spec­tion of gov­ern­ment build­ings, houses and va­cant land is be­ing car­ried out by po­lice and health of­fi­cials. Un­der the drive, le­gal ac­tions are be­ing taken against those who are main­tain­ing mos­quito breed­ing grounds in their pri­vate prop­er­ties. Across the coun­try, some 20,954 dengue cases have been re­ported this year, ac­cord­ing to the Sri Lankan Department of Health.
