Drive against Dengue
Sri Lankan government has launched a nationwide campaign to eradicate dengue from the country. The campaign aims to destroy dengue breeding areas and educate people about the disease. Streets, parks, shopping centres, buses and dump sites are being fumigated, while inspection of government buildings, houses and vacant land is being carried out by police and health officials. Under the drive, legal actions are being taken against those who are maintaining mosquito breeding grounds in their private properties. Across the country, some 20,954 dengue cases have been reported this year, according to the Sri Lankan Department of Health.
