Clear­ing Bal­last

Pak­istan Rail­ways has ac­quired a state- of- the- art bal­last clean­ing ma­chine for au­to­matic track main­te­nance. Nor­mally, the bal­last ( lit­tle rocks) is dam­aged ow­ing to ground move­ment, vi­bra­tions, con­trac­tion and heat ex­pan­sion. The new ma­chine will help clear the old bal­last and way for new bal­last to keep the wooden cross ties on the tracks sta­ble. The ma­chine will clear cover 300 me­ters of tracks with new bal­last within an hour, sav­ing sig­nif­i­cant time and re­sources and keep the rail­way tracks smooth and run­ning. The ma­chine has been ini­tially in­tro­duced in the Pun­jab on a test ba­sis.
