The Pak­istan Space and Up­per At­mos­phere Re­search Com­mis­sion (SUPARCO) will launch the coun­try’s first re­mote-sens­ing satel­lite in March, 2018. Known as the Re­mote Sens­ing Satel­lite Sys­tem (RSSS), the Pak­istan Re­mote Sens­ing Satel­lite (PRS) is a dual-pur­pose earth ob­ser­va­tional and op­ti­cal satel­lite that will re­place Badr-II. PRS will be pri­mar­ily used for en­vi­ron­men­tal mon­i­tor­ing, haz­ard warn­ing and nat­u­ral re­source sur­vey­ing. Ef­forts are be­ing made to utilise space tech­nol­ogy in var­i­ous sec­tors, such as ed­u­ca­tion, in­fra­struc­ture devel­op­ment, com­mu­ni­ca­tion, and agri­cul­ture. Cur­rently, space tech­nol­ogy is used by Pak­istan in the plan­ning and im­ple­men­ta­tion of Chi­naPak­istan Eco­nomic Cor­ri­dor (CPEC) projects.
