In Andhra Pradesh in In­dia, an LED bulb man­u­fac­tur­ing unit has been es­tab­lished to pro­vide pro­fes­sional train­ing and em­ploy­ment to women from tribal ar­eas. The State Energy Con­ser­va­tion Mis­sion, in as­so­ci­a­tion with the In­te­grated Tribal Devel­op­ment Agency (ITDA), formed a firm ‘Rampa Gir­i­jan Mahila Sa­makhya’ (RGMS) to cre­ate a sus­tain­able busi­ness model for the lo­cal tribal women. Headed by a B. Tech-qual­i­fied tribal woman, the firm has a work­force of 50 fe­male em­ploy­ees, pro­duc­ing some 125,000 energy savers, 4,400 tube lights and nearly 6,000 street lights and dec­o­ra­tive lights ev­ery month.
