Affordable Eye Care
In Rolpa District in Nepal, an ophthalmological centre has been established to provide eye care services to local people at an affordable rate. Funded by the privately-run Rapti Eye Hospital, the centre will serve people living in some 22 village development committees (VDCs) in Rolpa district. In Nepal, cataract is the most common eye disease, which accounts for about 62 per cent of preventable blindness in the country. Every year, some 350,000 cataract surgeries are performed in Nepal, but a large number of people cannot afford the treatment due to its high cost.
