Southasia - - BRIEFS -

In India, Bengaluru is going to be the first city to launch bus transport operations using a fleet of electric buses. Having trial-launched the country’s first electric bus in 2014, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has finally decided to induct a fleet of some 150 pollution-free electric buses, because of their lower operational and maintenance cost compared to petrol, diesel or CNG vehicles. Annually, an electric bus prevents up to 25 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission, while the annual profit of operating an electric bus is Rs 37 lakh compared to Rs 20 lakh earned by a diesel bus.
