As re­cently re­vealed by the World Eco­nomic Fo­rum, Bangladesh stands at 72 among 144 coun­tries in the world in the Global Gen­der Gap In­dex 2016. Par­tic­u­larly in the South Asia re­gion, Bangladesh has be­come a top coun­try in terms of gen­der eq­uity, fol­lowed by In­dia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Mal­dives, Bhutan and Pak­istan, re­spec­tively. The Global Gen­der Gap Re­port quan­ti­fies the mag­ni­tude of gen­der dis­par­i­ties in coun­tries and tracks their progress over time, with a spe­cial fo­cus on rel­a­tive gaps be­tween women


and men across such four key ar­eas as health, ed­u­ca­tion, econ­omy and pol­i­tics.
