First Satellite

Southasia - - BRIEFS -

Bhutan is going to launch its first geostationary satellite in 2018. Spending about 21 thousand dollars every year for satellite services, the Bhutanese Information and Communications Ministry is currently operating a transponder on a SAARC satellite, which will be launched by the end of this year. The launch of the satellite in 2018 will help the country upgrade its telecommunication and internet infrastructure, as well as the natural disaster monitoring system. To fulfil its space ambitions, many young Bhutanese students have been already sent to the United States to pursue their education in space engineering.
