The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor formally became operational when a fleet of trucks from China arrived last month at Sost Dry Port in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), the northernmost administrative territory of Pakistan. Loaded on more than 250 trucks, the first consignment was received by G-B Chief Minister, marking the formal initiation of a trade corridor that connects China to the rest of the world through Gwadar Port. The route will reduce the distance between western China and Gwadar by 9,000 km. For the security of Chinese trade convoys, Pakistan has installed 285 high-resolution, closed-circuit cameras with night vision capability along the route. Equipped with modern security gear, some 25 vehicles have been donated by China as well.
