Nuclear Safety

Southasia - - BRIEFS -

Having established a preliminary, sea- based arm of its nuclear deterrent, Pakistan Navy has unveiled a Very Low Frequency ( VLF) communication facility. The VLF facility has been designed for command and control of deployed submarines, carrying a nuclear deterrent patrol. VLF signals can penetrate some 20 metres below the sea surface. The military communication link in the VLF spectrum will extend the overall reach and flexibility of submarine operations. Multiplying its second- strike capability through its Minimum Credible Deterrence ( MCD), Pakistan will soon deploy a nuclear- armed, submarine- launched variant of Babur, similar to the United States' BGM-109 Tomahawk.
