Pak­istan has re­cently in­au­gu­rated a nu­clear power plant ‘Chashma-3’ (C-3) in the Pun­jab. Built with the as­sis­tance of China, C-3 has added 340 megawatts (MWs) to the na­tional grid. At Chashma, China has al­ready con­structed two other nu­clear re­ac­tors - C-1 and C-2 - with a com­bined ca­pac­ity of over 600MWs. A 340MW power plant ‘C-4’ is cur­rently un­der con­struc­tion and will be op­er­a­tional in April 2017. With a to­tal elec­tric­ity out­put of ap­prox­i­mately 16,000MWs at present, Pak­istan will be pro­duc­ing around 8,800MWs by 2030 through nu­clear power alone, ac­cord­ing to the Pak­istan Atomic En­ergy Com­mis­sion.
