Pakistan has recently inaugurated a nuclear power plant ‘Chashma-3’ (C-3) in the Punjab. Built with the assistance of China, C-3 has added 340 megawatts (MWs) to the national grid. At Chashma, China has already constructed two other nuclear reactors - C-1 and C-2 - with a combined capacity of over 600MWs. A 340MW power plant ‘C-4’ is currently under construction and will be operational in April 2017. With a total electricity output of approximately 16,000MWs at present, Pakistan will be producing around 8,800MWs by 2030 through nuclear power alone, according to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
