Sri Lanka has recently unveiled the world’s tallest artificial Christmas tree. Built in the capital city of Colombo, the 238-foot (73-meter) tree is 18 meters taller than the previous Guinness Book record holder. The internal structure of the tree is based on a steel-and-wire frame, which is covered with a plastic net decorated with over 1 million natural pine cones. The tree’s outer surface contains some 600,000 LED bulbs and is topped by a 20-foot star. It took nearly four months to complete the project, which cost $80,000.
