The government of Afghanistan is going to establish the Bamiyan Cultural Centre in Bamiyan, the capital of Bamyan Province in central Afghanistan. The 26,372-square-foot centre will be a stateof-the-art complex, as well as a research facility dedicated to preserving and promoting art and cultural activities in the country. It will include a performance hall, two galleries and a tea house. Being constructed at the UNESCO world heritage site where the Taliban demolished the historical Buddha statues in 2001, the $2.5 million project is being funded by the South Korean government based on a design by an Argentinian architecture firm.
