The Government of Pakistan is issuing a commemorative coin worth Rs. 50 in honour of late humanitarian Dr. Ruth Pfau, Pakistan’s Mother Teresa, who passed away in August at the age of 88. Born in Germany, Dr. Ruth Pfau moved to Pakistan in the 1960s and devoted her remaining life to fighting leprosy. She contributed in setting up over 155 leprosy clinics that provided leprosy treatment to more than 56 thousand people across the country. In recognition of her services, she was awarded ‘Sitara-I-Quaid-I-Azam’, ‘Hilal-IImtiaz’, ‘Hilal-I-Pakistan’ and ‘Nishan-I-Quaid-i-Azam.’ The Sindh Government has renamed the Civil Hospital, Karachi after Dr. Pfau.
