“Movielog. Think-challenge-question” a monthly film screening and debate aimed at young women was inaugurated by Javed Jabbar, Producer andwriter with the movie “Ramchand Pakistani” on 5th March, 2012 at the office of Friedrich-ebert-stiftung (FES) Pakistan. The monthlymovie series was organized by FES in cooperation with Centre for Excellence in Gender Studies at Quaid-iAzam University and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Almost 30 young women were there to watch Ramchand Pakistani. The young women were active in the after film discussion with the Producer and Writer of the film Javed Jabbar. Javed Jabbar shared his experience of making the film. “I know the real characters of the film personally and they were with us throughout the production part. We wanted them to be there while documenting their lives.” Country Representative of Fes-pakistan, Anjaminnaert said, “The movie screening will be held monthly at the FES office featuring a variety of national and internationalmovies and documentaries drawing on stories and experiences from Asia, the Americas and Europe.” The films serve as a medium to open up dialogue and reflection of issues of life choices, work-life balance and pertinent sociopolitical issues and challenges for women. Restricted through traditional and societal norms women seldom find opportunities to gather outside their homes and openly debate over issues of their concern starting from marital and family matters to politics. Noting the scarce availability of spaces for young women to engage in a critical discourse, the aim of the “Movielog” is to create a conducive environment for students, professionals and house wife's to discuss gender related issues and politics beyond the complex dynamics of their everyday life, family and work spaces. This will allow young women with different life experiences to gather regularly, allowing networking and interaction.
