20th An­niver­sary of "Turk­menistan's Pol­icy Per­ma­nent Neu­tral­ity"

Pres­i­dent of Turk­menistan Mr. Gur­ban­guly Berdimuhame­dov de­liv­ered a speech dur­ing an en­larged meet­ing of the Cabi­net of Min­is­ters of Turk­menistan.

The Turk­men leader noted that to­day Turk­menistan was one of the au­thor­i­ta­tive states in the world that had earned the re­spect of the in­ter­na­tional com­mu­nity. “Ac­cord­ing to the level of se­cu­rity and sus­tain­able devel­op­ment, our coun­try ranks among the lead­ing places in the re­gion. Hav­ing cho­sen its sovereign for­eign-pol­icy course, neu­tral Turk­menistan is pol­icy re­main un­change­able. Among them are cre­ation of the favourable ex­ter­nal con­di­tions for in­ter­nal devel­op­ment, strength­en­ing the in­de­pen­dence and se­cu­rity, devel­op­ment of econ­omy as well as in­crease of the well­be­ing and qual­ity of life of the Turk­men peo­ple”, the Pres­i­dent noted.

“Turk­menistan con­tin­ues to con­trib­ute to the devel­op­ment with the aim to ex­pand the trade and eco­nomic co­op­er­a­tion as well as hu­man­i­tar­ian re­la­tions with neigh­bor­ing coun­tries”.

“We have many new im­por­tant tasks for the next year. In our coun­try, the year of 2015 was de­clared as the Year of Neu­tral­ity and Peace. This de­ci­sion im­poses the Em­bassies and con­sular de­part­ments of Turk­menistan, the per­ma­nent rep­re­sen­ta­tions of our coun­try at in­ter­na­tional or­ga­ni­za­tions with greater re­spon­si­bil­i­ties and sets ex­tremely im­por­tant tasks to them. The Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs of Turk­menistan, our am­bas­sadors and con­suls should pop­u­lar­ize and re­veal the great im­por­tance of the per­ma­nent neu­tral­ity of Turk­menistan all over the world”, said the Pres­i­dent of Turk­menistan giv­ing a num­ber of in­struc­tions in this re­gard.

The Turk­men leader also un­der­lined the ne­ces­sity to en­hance the tra­di­tion­ally friendly re­la­tions with our close neigh­bours, in­clud­ing China, the Rus­sian Fed­er­a­tion, and the United States.

The Pres­i­dent noted that co­op­er­a­tion be­tween our coun­try and the Euro­pean Union also gave good re­sults.

The Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs of Turk­menistan should widen the diplo­matic re­la­tions be­tween Turk­menistan and the coun­tries of South and Cen­tral Amer­ica.

“We should thor­oughly an­a­lyze the op­por­tu­ni­ties of co­op­er­a­tion with African coun­tries”, con­tin­ued the Turk­men leader.

The Pres­i­dent in­structed the Min­istry of For­eign Af­fairs of Turk­menistan to ap­point our Am­bas­sadors in for­eign coun­tries as well as to draft a plan of open­ing diplo­matic mis­sions of Turk­menistan abroad for 2015-2017.

Speak­ing about the hu­man­i­tar­ian co­op­er­a­tion and the sphere of ed­u­ca­tion in par­tic­u­lar, the Turk­men leader in­structed the for­eign-pol­icy agency of our coun­try to draft a pro­gramme of or­ga­niz­ing and hold­ing the events aimed at wide cov­er­age of the prepa­ra­tions for the V Asian In­door and Mar­tial Arts Games the will be held in Ashgabat in 2017 in Turk­menistan and for­eign states.

In con­clu­sion of his Ad­dress, the Turk­men leader noted that the meet­ing was held on the eve of the big na­tional hol­i­day – the Neu­tral­ity Day. On De­cem­ber 12, 1995, the United Na­tions Gen­eral As­sem­bly adopted the Res­o­lu­tion on Per­ma­nent Neu­tral­ity of Turk­menistan. The day of De­cem­ber 12 – Neu­tral­ity Day was in­scribed in the his­tory of the in­de­pen­dent Turk­men state with golden let­ters.

“I strongly be­lieve that our neu­tral state that pur­sues a peace-lov­ing for­eign pol­icy based on the mu­tual trust, equal re­la­tions and fruit­ful co­op­er­a­tion, will con­tinue de­vel­op­ing friend­ship and mu­tu­ally agreed re­la­tions with all coun­tries and peo­ples in the world!” said the Pres­i­dent of Turk­menistan dur­ing an en­larged meet­ing of the Cabi­net of Min­is­ters of the coun­try.
