Moen­jo­daro re­hab pro­ject kicks off

ISLAMABAD: The pro­ject of Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion and Cul­ture Tourism at Moen­jo­daro (RCTM) would pro­tect the ar­chae­o­log­i­cal site of Moen­jo­daro and it will be com­pleted by June 2012.

Talk­ing to APP Mon­day, an of­fi­cial of cul­tural min­istry told that steps would be taken for the con­ser­va­tion, restora­tion, preser­va­tion and de­vel­op­ment of ar­chae­o­log­i­cal re­mains un­der the RCTM.

To a ques­tion, he said Rs. 55.953 mil­lion were al­lo­cated for these pro­tect and Rs.36.3 mil­lion have been re­leased.

He said the his­toric sites of Tax­ila is be­ing pre­served un­der the scheme "De­vel­op­ment and Restora­tion of Ar­chae­o­log­i­cal Sites from Tax­ila to Swat and its ap­proved cost was Rs.200 mil­lion and so far Rs.75.6 mil­lion have been re­leased and uti­lized for the pur­pose and the pro­gramme is ex­pected to be com­pleted by 2014.

He said the ar­chae­o­log­i­cal site of Harappa is be­ing pre­served and main­tained un­der the An­nual and spe­cial re­pair pro­gramme. To a ques­tion he said due to ef­forts of min­istry for cul­ture the site of Harappa has been placed on ten­ta­tive list of the World Her­itage by UNESCO and hope­fully it will be de­clared as World Her­itage in near fu­ture.
