MPA reg­is­ters con­cern about paucity of funds

KARACHI: Mem­ber of Sindh Assem­bly, Nishat Zia Qadri has reg­is­tered his se­ri­ous con­cern about scarcity of funds avail­able with mu­nic­i­pal­ity de­part­ments and rel­e­vant or­gan­i­sa­tions in the prov­ince.

"Paucity of funds has se­verely ag­gra­vated the sit­u­a­tion in han­dling mu­nic­i­pal­ity re­lated is­sues with spe­cific ref­er­ence to clean­li­ness and fu­mi­ga­tion on reg­u­lar ba­sis," he said vis­it­ing his con­stituency on Fri­day. The MPA said there was ur­gency to re­store lo­cal bod­ies sys­tem in the prov­ince and help ad­dress the is­sue on strong lines. "Pro­vin­cial govern­ment need to take im­me­di­ate stock of the sit­u­a­tion and must not only en­sure avail­abil­ity of re­sources but also move for­ward in re­ac­ti­vat­ing lo­cal bod­ies sys­tem," he said.

MPA Qadri was of the opin­ion that these steps will not only avert pos­si­ble out­break of se­ri­ous dis­eases in­clud­ing dengue fever, congo crimean fever but si­mul­ta­ne­ously en­sure un­in­ter­rupted sup­ply of wa­ter be­sides clean am­bi­ence and healthy en­vi­ron­ment for cit­i­zens in gen­eral. "Ac­tive lo­cal bod­ies that must nec­es­sar­ily be trans­par­ent and ac­count­able can help gen­er­at­ing re­sources and also man­age their ad­e­quate use," said Nishat Zia Qadri.

He said mu­nic­i­pal cor­po­ra­tions need to take upon them­selves safe han­dling and dis­posal of garbage gen­er­ated in their re­spec­tive ar­eas of ju­ris­dic­tion. The MPA dur­ing his visit to Shah Faisal Colony and Landhi/ Ko­rangi ar­eas was also ac­com­pa­nied by Di­rec­tor, Lo­cal Govern­ment, Ru­bina Asif, Mu­nic­i­pal Com­mis­sioner, Ko­rangi, Mas­roor Me­mon, Su­per­in­ten­dent En­gi­neer Prem Chand, Di­rec­tor, Health Ser­vices, Rafiq Shaikh, Fo­cal Per­son, Shah Faisal Zone, As­lam Pervez and Fo­cal Per­son, Ko­rangi, Mobin Sid­diqui. -APP
