SHAR­JAH: New Zealand were 249-1 at close on the sec­ond day of the third and fi­nal Test against Pak­istan in Shar­jah on Fri­day.

Bren­don McCul­lum was on an ag­gres­sive 153 and with him Kane Wil­liamson on 76 as New Zealand now trail Pak­istan's first in­nings to­tal of 351 by 102 runs.

Off-spin­ner Mark Craig took a ca­reer-best 7-94 -- his first five-wicket haul -- to wrap up Pak­istan's last seven wick­ets for 70 runs af­ter they re­sumed at 281-3.

Opener Mo­ham­mad Hafeez made his high­est Test score of 197.

In the morn­ing play­ers and of­fi­cials from both teams ob­served a minute's si­lence and wore black arm­bands to join the sport­ing world in mourn­ing young Aus­tralian bats­man Phillip Hughes, who died on Thurs­day from se­ri­ous head in­juries af­ter be­ing struck by a bouncer.-Agen­cies
