KARACHI: Sindh Employees' Social Security Institution (SESSI) is currently spending 73% of its total budget in meeting the medical needs of around four million workers with its social security scheme, said its commissioner, Muhammad Farooq Leghari here on Tuesday. Presenting a report during the 141st meeting of the SESSI's governing body he said a total number of 29,470 industrial and commercial centres were registered with SESSI and 395,000 workers associated with these facilities are provided with all medical facilities and other rele- vant financial support. Advisor to the Sindh Chief Minister and Chairman, SESSI's governing body, Asghar Ali Junejo on the occasion said there was need to expand the social security net with optimum numbers of bonafideworkers covered under SESSI. He said the government was fully conscious of the problems faced by the workers and realizing its responsibilities towards is attempting to approach all industrial, commercial, trade and business entities, with strength of more than 10 workers, to get themselves registered with SESSI. The idea is to ensure that these units make their contribution towards the cause of social needs of workers that would be supplemented by the government under its obligation towards working class, said Asghar Ali Junejo. This, he said was crucial as satisfied workers are prerequisite for economic and social development in any area. Other members of governing body who attended the meeting included Rehan Karim Meghani, Laal Buksh Kalhoro, Dr. Zafar Mehdi, Mussarat Mukhtar, Riaz Gul, Akhter Bugti and others.-APP
