Cho­han slams PML-N for 'ma­lign­ing' NAB

LA­HORE: Pun­jab In­for­ma­tion and Cul­ture Min­is­ter Fayyazul Has­san Cho­han on Fri­day slammed Pak­istan Mus­lim LeagueNawaz (PML-N) over ma­lign­ing Na­tional Ac­count­abil­ity Bureau (NAB) to es­cape ac­count­abil­ity.

Talk­ing to jour­nal­ists, Fayyazul Has­san Cho­han said that NAB is an in­de­pen­dent body and work­ing freely to curb cor­rup­tion in the coun­try.

He ex­pressed an­guish over the crit­i­cism on NAB by the op­po­si­tion and added that PML-N try­ing to make anti-cor­rup­tion watch­dog's role con­tro­ver­sial so as to es­cape from in­quiries.

It is per­ti­nent to men­tion here that ear­lier Fri­day, PML-N moved a priv­i­lege mo­tion in the Na­tional Assem­bly against the NAB's La­hore Di­rec­tor Gen­eral.

For­mer prime min­is­ter and se­nior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Ab­basi had moved the mo­tion, stat­ing that the NAB's La­hore Di­rec­tor Gen­eral staged a me­dia-trial of op­po­si­tion politi­cians in a TVin­ter­view.

Sep­a­rately, speak­ing to a press con­fer­ence in Is­lam­abad, the for­mer premier termed the NAB Or­di­nance a black law. Politi­cians are be­ing in­sulted on the ba­sis of trumped-up charges, he claimed.

Re­fer­ring to the NAB DG's in­ter­view, he said the Bureau of­fi­cials dis­closed con­fi­den­tial in­for­ma­tion and tried to ma­lign the Par­lia­ment.-NNI
