LCCI links dev’t with women’s empowerment
LAHORE: The country could witness an economic turnaround with a greater speed in these challenging times if the women, that are more than half of the country's total population, are encouraged to join mainstream economy. Their participation in business will change complexion of the society and perception of the country.
These views were expressed by LCCI Vice President Faisal Iqbal Sheikh and Convener Women Entrepreneurs Committee Ms Aasia Saail Khan while speaking at the concluding ceremony of two-day Women Networking Event and Exhibition at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
LCCI former Presidents Mian Misbahur Rehman, Mian Muzaffar Ali, Executive Committee members Dr Shahid Raza and Imran Daud were also present on the occasion.
They said that women con- stitute fifty two of the total population of the country but only eleven per cent are engaged in business activity and are contributing to national economy while remaining have been confined to household affairs. They said that a little effort could help make this proposition the other way round.
They said that though both the provincial and Federal governments in recent years have focused more on the development of women entrepreneurs in the country but due attention is needed by offering them focused opportunities in export of goods to the international market.
The products prepared by women entrepreneurs should be allowed concession in taxes. They urged the government to come up with a more aggressive package for the women entrepreneurs.
Earlier, the exhibition was inaugurated by Ms Jessica Barlo, Economic Consultant US Consulate General Lahore. Speaking on the occasion she urged the women to come forward and show their abilities.
