Fehmida calls for awareness drive to control HIV
ISLAMABAD: Acting President Dr. Fehmida Mirza has called for a masssive public awareness campaign to control spread of HIV/AIDS.
In her message on the World AIDs Day being commemorated on December 1, she said that every year million of people in the World are infected and die due to HIV/AIDS.
She said that this day provide us an opportunity to create awareness among the masses about the fatal affects of this deadly disease.
She said that AIDS was rapidly spreading in developing countries and according to World Health Organization (WHO) 90% of new HIV/ AIDS cases were reported in developing countries.
She said through education and awareness, we would combat the deadly disease.
She stressed the need for an effective global strategy for prevention, treatment and care of HIV/ AIDS.
She also asked world donor agencies and developed countries to increase funds to fight against AIDs.
Fehmida Miraz said that the present democratic set up was committed to provide maximum health facilities to masses and substantial funds has been allocated in the current fiscal year budget for this purpose.She said that all possible measures will be taken to control AIDs in the country.
She appreciated the endeavors of philanthropists, volunteers and health workers for controlling and treating HIV patients. She also appreciated the steps taken National AIDS Programme to control HIV in the country.
Fehmida Mirza asked for change of discriminatory behavior of society towards the AIDS patient. She asked the provincial health departments and National Aids Program to establish treatment and diagnostic centers for HIV patient and make arrangements for training for health workers dealing with AIDS patients.
Moreover, in connection with the World AIDS Day, Sindh Health and Education Development Society (SHEDS) has prepared different programmes to create awareness about HIV/AIDS among masses. -App
