Food ex­ports in­crease by 11.19pc in four months

IS­LAM­ABAD: Food ex­ports from the coun­try in­creased by 11.19 per­cent dur­ing July-Oc­to­ber (2010-11) as com­pared to the cor­re­spond­ing pe­riod of last year.

Food ex­ports dur­ing the pe­riod un­der re­view were recorded at $951.716 mil­lion against the ex­ports of $855.905 dur­ing July-Oc­to­ber (200910), ac­cord­ing to pro­vi­sional fig­ures re­leased by Fed­eral Bureau of Statis­tics (FBS).

The food items that con­trib­uted en­hanc­ing the ex­ports dur­ing the first four months of the cur­rent year in­cluded rice, ex­ports of which grew by 18.26 per­cent.

The other com­modi­ties that wit­nessed pos­i­tive growth in ex­ports in­cluded fish and fish prepa­ra­tions (42.17 per­cent), veg­eta­bles (14.86 per­cent), to­bacco (67.24 per­cent), spices (20.55 per­cent) and meat and meat prepa­ra­tions (29.91 per­cent).

The food items wit­ness­ing neg­a­tive growth in ex­ports dur­ing the pe­riod in­cluded, fruits, ex­ports of which de­creased by 0.56 per­cent.

Sim­i­larly ex­ports of oil seeds, nuts and ker­nels de­creased by 65.69 per­cent, wheat by 100 per­cent where as the ex­ports of all other food items de­creased by 30.38 per­cent. Food ex­ports dur­ing the moths of Oc­to­ber 2010 in­creased by 44.52 per­cent and 19.15 per­cent over Septem­ber 2010 and Oc­to­ber 2009 re­spec­tively. -App
