Food exports increase by 11.19pc in four months
ISLAMABAD: Food exports from the country increased by 11.19 percent during July-October (2010-11) as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
Food exports during the period under review were recorded at $951.716 million against the exports of $855.905 during July-October (200910), according to provisional figures released by Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
The food items that contributed enhancing the exports during the first four months of the current year included rice, exports of which grew by 18.26 percent.
The other commodities that witnessed positive growth in exports included fish and fish preparations (42.17 percent), vegetables (14.86 percent), tobacco (67.24 percent), spices (20.55 percent) and meat and meat preparations (29.91 percent).
The food items witnessing negative growth in exports during the period included, fruits, exports of which decreased by 0.56 percent.
Similarly exports of oil seeds, nuts and kernels decreased by 65.69 percent, wheat by 100 percent where as the exports of all other food items decreased by 30.38 percent. Food exports during the moths of October 2010 increased by 44.52 percent and 19.15 percent over September 2010 and October 2009 respectively. -App
