Farm­ers urged to grow more wheat

KHANEWAL: District Co­or­di­na­tion Of­fi­cer Qazi Mo­ham­mad Ish­faq urged farm­ers to grow more wheat oth­er­wise there could be its short­age.

Ad­dress­ing a district mon­i­tor­ing com­mit­tee task force meet­ing, the DCO said ris­ing cul­ti­va­tion trend of BT cot­ton could be dangers as farm­ers would ig­nore wheat cul­ti­va­tion.

He urged farm­ers to cul­ti­vate wheat in BT cot­ton in line with lat­est agri­cul­tural tech­niques.

He also di­rected agri­cul­ture of­fi­cials to pay vis­its at union coun­cil level and in­form farm­ers about lat­est seeds, ways and means of wheat cul­ti­va­tion. The DCO also di­rected the of­fi­cials to stop the sale of sub­stan­dard seed, fer­tiliser and pes­ti­cide. He also warned them of ac­tion if they failed to pro­vide con­sul­tancy to farm­ers. -App
