Malaysian banks making their mark regionally
KUALA LUMPUR: It is obvious that Malaysian banks are making their mark in the region, especially with open invitations, to operate in neighboring countries.
The Finance Ministers of Thailand and the Philippines openly invited Maybank and CIMB Bank to operate in their respective countries, during the ministers' panel session at the Asean Finance Ministers' Investors Seminar here, today.
Thailand's Minister for Finance, Kom Chatikavanji, said the country is looking forward to Maybank making an entry.
He said this immediately after Maybank chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar stood up to ask a question on the potential in Myanmar. Maybank operates in seven out of the 10 countries in the Asean grouping, except for Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. -PB News
