Malaysian banks mak­ing their mark re­gion­ally

KUALA LUMPUR: It is ob­vi­ous that Malaysian banks are mak­ing their mark in the re­gion, es­pe­cially with open in­vi­ta­tions, to op­er­ate in neigh­bor­ing coun­tries.

The Fi­nance Min­is­ters of Thai­land and the Philip­pines openly in­vited May­bank and CIMB Bank to op­er­ate in their re­spec­tive coun­tries, dur­ing the min­is­ters' panel ses­sion at the Asean Fi­nance Min­is­ters' In­vestors Sem­i­nar here, to­day.

Thai­land's Min­is­ter for Fi­nance, Kom Chatika­vanji, said the coun­try is look­ing for­ward to May­bank mak­ing an en­try.

He said this im­me­di­ately af­ter May­bank chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer, Datuk Seri Ab­dul Wahid Omar stood up to ask a ques­tion on the po­ten­tial in Myan­mar. May­bank op­er­ates in seven out of the 10 coun­tries in the Asean group­ing, ex­cept for Thai­land, Laos and Myan­mar. -PB News
