AJK min­is­ter links In­dian UNSC mem­ber­ship with Kash­mir res­o­lu­tion

IS­LAM­ABAD: Min­is­ter for In­for­ma­tion Azad Jammu and Kash­mir Mehmood Riaz on Thurs­day called upon the in­ter­na­tional com­mu­nity to make the res­o­lu­tion of Kash­mir is­sue a pre-req­ui­site for In­dia to get mem­ber­ship in the United Na­tions Se­cu­rity Coun­cil.

" In­dia mem­ber­ship at UN Se­cu­rity Coun­cil should not be ac­cepted if it fails to com­ply with UN res­o­lu­tions on Kash­mir, " Mehmood said in an in­ter­view dur­ing his visit to APP Head­quar­ters on Thurs­day.

The Min­is­ter said that re­solv­ing Kash­mir is­sue was also in the in­ter­est of In­dia to save bil­lions of ru­pees it has been spend­ing on pro­long­ing the oc­cu­pa­tion. These re­sources should be di­verted to­wards wel­fare of bil­lions of starv­ing In­di­ans, he as­serted.

"The res­o­lu­tion of Kash­mir dis­pute is there­fore also in the in­ter­est of In­dia it­self and she should re­solve it", he re­marked

He re­it­er­ated the Kash­miris' re­solve to con­tinue the on­go­ing free­dom move­ment till the free­dom of Kash­mir from In­dia thrall­dom. Mehmood Riaz also vowed to con­tinue the on­go­ing in­de­pen­dence move­ment in In­dian oc­cu­pied Kash­mir till the re­al­iza­tion of com­plete free­dom from In­dian sub­ju­ga­tion and its ac­ces­sion with Pak­istan.

"Peo­ple of Pak­istan and Azad Kash­mir are united on Kash­mir cause and would never ac­cept any so­lu­tion on it which is against the wishes of Kash­miri peo­ple",he added.

The AJK In­for­ma­tion Min­is­ter said that Kash­miris have ren­dered un­told sac­ri­fices for the cause of Kash­mir free­dom move­ment and for strug­gle to get birth right of self de­ter­mi­na­tion to peo­ple of Kash­mir by the United Na­tions Se­cu­rity Coun­cil.

Talk­ing about the In­dian govern­ment move to se­cure per­ma­nent mem­ber­ship in the United Na­tions Se­cu­rity Coun­cil, he called upon the in­ter­na­tional pow­ers to link se­cur­ing of mem­ber­ship by In­dia to the res­o­lu­tion of Kash­mir dis­pute ac­cord­ing to wishes of the peo­ple of Kash­mir.

Mehmood Riaz said that in­ter­ests of peo­ple of Azad Kah­mir and Pak­istan are also in­ter­linked as the as­sets of Azad Kash­mir and in­vest­ments are in Pak­istan while the Kash­miri di­as­pora is re­mit­ting for­eign ex­change in Pak­istan and play­ing an im­por­tant role in the eco­nomic pros­per­ity of the coun­try.

He thanked in­cum­bent govern­ment for ex­tend­ing po­lit­i­cal, moral and diplo­matic sup­port to the peo­ple of Kash­mir in their strug­gle for the right of self de­ter­mi­na­tion. "Peo­ple of Kash­mir are also ide­o­log­i­cally and cul­tur­ally as­so­ci­ated with peo­ple of Pak­istan and we can­not be sep­a­rated from each other",he said. He ob­served that move­ments for free­dom span over cen­turies and strug­gle crowns with suc­cess adding that Kash­miris would never com­pro­mise on their free­dom and con­tinue its till its log­i­cal con­clu­sion.

The AJK In­for­ma­tion Min­is­ter also lauded For­eign Min­is­ter Shah Mehmood Qureshi for his role in high­light­ing the Kash­mir dis­pute at in­ter­na­tional fo­rum and stressing for its am­i­ca­ble so­lu­tion ac­cord­ing to the wishes of peo­ple of Kash­mir.

He said that due to re­stric­tions on the move­ment abroad of Kash­miris only about 5000 Kash­miris from In­dian oc­cu­pied Kash­mir. -App
