Measures taken to avoid fog related accidents
LAHORE: National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) have started adopting extraordinary preventive measures to avoid fog-related accidents. In past, fog has been a foremost cause of grave accidents on highways and numerous lives were lost. In order to ensure a free flow of traffic on national highways, rules have been set which are required to be implemented in letter and spirit.
Dr Wasim Kauser Inspector General NH&MP said this while presiding over a high level meeting about arrangements of NH&MP upcoming dense fog weather on national highways & motorways here on Sunday. DIG Syed Ibne Hussain also briefed the IG about special arrangements and deployment of extra mobiles.
The IG NH&MP further said that the motto "Safety First" should be kept in mind and before boarding a vehicle one should check lights (headlight, rear lights and revolving lights) and wipers. Defoggers should be used frequently to clear the windscreen, rear screen and back view mirror of a vehicle. He further said that NH&MP vehicles will play the hard shoulder with all lights switched on. Hooters should be used frequently.
NH&MP officers must be stationed at all toll plazas, interchanges and entry points and imparts necessary briefing to the drivers regarding safety measures and speed limit etc. -App
