PESHAWAR: The flood victims of Khyber Pakthunkhwa here on Sunday urged the government to immediately release second installment of Rs20,000 under Watan Cards' financial package for immediate reconstruction of their houses in order to minimize their long sufferings.

The reconstruction activities have picked up momentum in flood-hit Khyber Pakthunkhwa as most of poor flood victims are eagerly waiting for second installment of Watan cards to give further impetus to rebuilding works on houses aimed to protect their children from severe cold.

The well-off people are seen hurrying for construction of their houses on self-help basis in Nowsehra and Charsadda district by bringing stones, bricks and other construction materials. However, poor flood victims are looking for government and NGOs help to construct at least a room for their families due to lack of financial resources.

Despite the fact the government and NGOs are helping poor families by constructing a room and a wash room besides food for them, but devastation of flood was so huge that still a large number of deserved flood victims have not been accessed and are living in tents looking for Government help.

The poor flood victims of Nowshera and Charsadda district had paid their full attention to get foods and relief goods after natural catastrophe and did not pay heed for reconstruction of their houses as result of which they are feeling the brunt of severe clod weather now a days.

The price of construction materials including bricks, steel, stones, sand and fare of transport have increased manifold and poor people could not afford to buy it and are still living under an open sky due to lack of financial resources.

The affected people of Landay Arbab, Akbar Pura, Tarnab Farms, Babi Jadeed, Mohib Banda, Dheri Mian Ishaq, Pusthon Ghari, Azakhel, Hakeemabad, Tetari, Jabba in Nowshera, and Nishata, Prang, Sherpao, Solgara, Tangi, Jala Bela, Daaman in Charsadda district are looking towards donor agencies and state organs for reconstruction of houses.

The elders of these villages including Misal Khan, Gulam Akbar, Taj Khan, Timar Shah have demanded government to immediately release the second installment of Rs.20000 under Watan Cards so that poor families could construct at least a room for themselves. They also urged government to release Rs. one lakh to flood affectees to help minimize their sufferings. A poor-hair dresser Dilaram Khan at village Dheri Ishaq said that his house was swept away by floods and torrential rains on July 29 and he has no money to start reconstruction work. -App
