Rs 3.3b to be spent on agri sector in Sindh, says Sharmila
KARACHI: Government of Sindh has devised a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate the agriculture sector of the province under Rabi Assistance Plan in the flood affected areas.
"Sindh province faced a loss of an estimated Rs 102 billion due to destruction caused to 2.23 million acres of agricultural land in recent floods," said Advisor to Chief Minister on Information Sharmila Farooqui while addressing a press conference here on Saturday.
She said on the directive of President Asif Ali Zardari, the government had issued Watan Cards amongst the flood affected and now in its second phase, the government will launch the rehabilitation of the agricultural land in coordination with the Department of Irrigation and Agriculture.
She said that 'de-watering' has almost been done in affected districts with the pumps and the target will be achieved very soon.
Sharmila said that committees have been formed at district and tehsil level to ensure transparency in the distribution of fertilizer among the affected growers.
The committees will comprise DCOs as chairmen while the members will include EDO Revenue, XEN Irrigation, two representatives each of chambers of Agriculture and Abadgar Board while the tehsil committees will be represented by DDO, Mukhtiarkar, DD Agriculture and others. -App
