LAHORE: Punjab Governor Salman Taseer has urged the politicians to promote culture of political tolerance in the country with hatred towards none. "I've been targeted by the political opponents for nothing but they should stay rest assured that I'm here to stay as Governor Punjab", he said while responding to media men after the prize distribution ceremony of 27th Governor's Golf Cup tournament here on Sunday.

Replying to a query, Punjab Govenor said that those who mutilated the constituttion in the past were claiming to be the champions of democracy and constitution today.

He urged the Punjab government of Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to "avoid anti-people policies", adding that he had always tendered advice to the Punjab government. Taseer feared that the 'Aashiana' housing scheme would prove to be "a new scam" of the Punjab government.

To a question regarding 'Aashiana' housing facility, Taseer said that Punjab government was "exploiting the haplessness of the poor masses, asserting that rupees 900 were being extorted from the needy people under the "Aashiana" scheme". Taseer alleged: "mere 3000 houses were offered to the people while millions of rupees would be collected from the thousands of the poor in the province". -App
