Weekly inflation goes up
ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on December 9, for the lowest income group up to Rs.3,000, has registered increase of 0.13 percent over the previous week.
The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 298.10 points as against 297.70 points registered in the previous week, according to provisional figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS). The weekly SPI was computed with base 2000 2001=100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
The SPI for the combined group also increased by 0.14 per cent as it went up from 281.99 points in the previous week to 282.39 points in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 21.68 percent. As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups ranging from Rs.3001 to 5000, Rs.5001 to 12000 and above Rs.12000 increased by 0.14 percent, 0.18 percent and 0.22 percent respectively. During the week under review average prices of 12 items registered decrease, 17 increase while prices of 26 items remained unchanged. The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included onions, potatoes, bananas, garlic, chicken (farm), sugar, gurr, rice (basmati broken), mash pulse (washed), masoor pulse (washed), egg hen (farm) and rice (irri-6). The items which recorded increase in their average prices during the week under review included tomatoes, LPG (11 kg cylender), vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), red chillies, firewood, washing soap, vegetable ghee (loose),milk (fresh), moong pulse (washed), tea (prepared), mutton, gram pulse (washed),wheat (average quality), curd, cooked beef and wheat flour (average quality). The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included beef, bread, milk (powdered), mustard oil, salt (powdered), tea (packet), cooked dal, cigarettes, coarse latha, lawn, voil (printed), shirting, sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, kerosene, electricity bulb, match, bath soap, gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges (1-100 unit), petrol, diesel and telephone local call. -App
