Measures taken to maintain poppy-free status
ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Narcotics Control (MoNC) has taken significant measures to maintain poppy free status of the country. Federal Minister for Narcotics Control, Arbab Muhammad Zahir informed APP that the objective of making homeland free of poppy cultivation is being achieved with cooperation of elders of the tribal areas. He said infrastructure development has provided access to the tribes for better education and improved health facilities and literacy rate especially among females has improved significantly.
The initiatives taken by the MoNC in collaboration with tribes are highly appreciated by the International community as the tribal heads are not only trying to maintain poppy free status of the country but also playing vital role in curbing drug trafficking. He said that government is taking appropriate steps to address drugs demand reduction. -App
