Sindh suffers Rs 450 billion loss in floods
KARACHI: Province of Sindh suffered a loss of an estimated Rs 450 billion during the floods this year.
"7.2 million people were displaced due to floods in the province, private property worth over Rs. 286 billion was lost and government infrastructure up to Rs 77 billion was damaged," according to a report submitted by Sindh Human Rights Department to provincial minister for Human Rights, Nadia Gabol here on Saturday.
The Sindh Human Rights Department is extending all possible assistance to flood-hit internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the province and providing due support to different government departments, social welfare organizations and volunteers for re-starting normal socio-economic life.
All the regional offices of Human Rights Department were in proper co-ordination with the District Administrations and keeping focus on education and health facilities to internally displaced persons, the reported added.
The provincial minister while reviewing the report asked the Human Rights Department to institutionalize its endeavors by way of proper coordination with all the stake holders under an appropriate strategy.
She asked the officials of the department to prepare a study report identifying loopholes in the rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons (IDP). -App
