Sindh suf­fers Rs 450 bil­lion loss in floods

KARACHI: Prov­ince of Sindh suf­fered a loss of an es­ti­mated Rs 450 bil­lion dur­ing the floods this year.

"7.2 mil­lion peo­ple were dis­placed due to floods in the prov­ince, pri­vate prop­erty worth over Rs. 286 bil­lion was lost and govern­ment in­fra­struc­ture up to Rs 77 bil­lion was dam­aged," ac­cord­ing to a re­port sub­mit­ted by Sindh Hu­man Rights Depart­ment to pro­vin­cial min­is­ter for Hu­man Rights, Na­dia Gabol here on Satur­day.

The Sindh Hu­man Rights Depart­ment is ex­tend­ing all pos­si­ble as­sis­tance to flood-hit in­ter­nally dis­placed per­sons (IDPs) in the prov­ince and pro­vid­ing due sup­port to dif­fer­ent govern­ment de­part­ments, so­cial wel­fare or­ga­ni­za­tions and vol­un­teers for re-start­ing nor­mal so­cio-eco­nomic life.

All the re­gional of­fices of Hu­man Rights Depart­ment were in proper co-or­di­na­tion with the District Ad­min­is­tra­tions and keep­ing fo­cus on ed­u­ca­tion and health fa­cil­i­ties to in­ter­nally dis­placed per­sons, the re­ported added.

The pro­vin­cial min­is­ter while re­view­ing the re­port asked the Hu­man Rights Depart­ment to in­sti­tu­tion­al­ize its en­deav­ors by way of proper co­or­di­na­tion with all the stake hold­ers un­der an ap­pro­pri­ate strat­egy.

She asked the of­fi­cials of the depart­ment to pre­pare a study re­port iden­ti­fy­ing loop­holes in the rehabilitation of the in­ter­nally dis­placed per­sons (IDP). -App
