CM vows to pro­vide mod­ern trans­port fa­cil­i­ties for peo­ple

LA­HORE: Pun­jab Chief Min­is­ter Muham­mad Shahbaz Sharif has said that pro­vi­sion of mod­ern trans­port fa­cil­i­ties to the peo­ple is among the top pri­or­i­ties of the govern­ment and solid mea­sures are be­ing taken for this pur­pose.

He said that an ef­fec­tive pol­icy for solid waste man­age­ment and pro­vi­sion of a healthy en­vi­ron­ment to the cit­i­zens is also be­ing im­ple­mented and an agree­ment is be­ing signed with Is­tan­bul Mu­nic­i­pal­ity (Turkey) in this re­gard.

He was pre­sid­ing over a meet­ing re­gard­ing trans­port fa­cil­i­ties to the peo­ple and solid waste man­age­ment in the cities.

Chair­man La­hore Trans­port Com­pany Kh. Ahmed Hasaan, Sec­re­tary Trans­port, Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor Solid Waste Man­age­ment and Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer La­hore Trans­port Com­pany were present on the oc­ca­sion. The Chief Min­is­ter said that ne­go­ti­a­tions are be­ing held with Korea and other coun­tries for pro­vid­ing bet­ter trans­port fa­cil­i­ties to the peo­ple of the prov­ince. He said that in ad­di­tion to pro­vi­sion of trans­port fa­cil­i­ties, plan­ning is also be­ing made for the con­struc­tion of park­ing plazas. He said that the state-of-the-art Park & Ride project in Lib­erty Mar­ket has been com­pleted in a record pe­riod of time while suit­able sites are be­ing iden­ti­fied for the con­struc­tion of twelve more park­ing plazas in the pro­vin­cial me­trop­o­lis on the same pat­tern. He di­rected Chair­man La­hore Trans­port Com­pany to take all pos­si­ble mea­sures for pro­vid­ing qual­ity trans­port fa­cil­i­ties to the peo­ple as soon as pos­si­ble. He said that an agree­ment is be­ing reached with Is­tan­bul Mu­nic­i­pal­ity for solid waste man­age­ment in the pro­vin­cial me­trop­o­lis and the doc­u­ment will be signed on De­cem­ber 27.

Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor Solid Waste Man­age­ment high­lighted the salient fea­tures of the agree­ment to be signed with Is­tan­bul Mu­nic­i­pal­ity.

Mean­while, dur­ing a meet­ing with assem­bly mem­bers, Muham­mad Shahbaz Sharif said that cor­rup­tion and mis­ap­pro­pri­a­tion of funds in the devel­op­ment projects has be­come a thing of the past and pub­lic money is be­ing uti­lized in a trans­par­ent man­ner. He said that cul­ture of trans­parency has been pro­moted in the prov­ince and the con­di­tion of third party au­dit of all devel­op­ment projects is be­ing strictly im­ple­mented. He said that third party au­dit sys­tem was also in­tro­duced in the last ten­ure of his govern­ment but dur­ing the dic­ta­to­rial era this con­di­tion was with­drawn and pub­lic funds were looted mer­ci­lessly. He said that govern­ment is the cus­to­dian of ev­ery penny of pub­lic money and all re­sources are be­ing spent on the wel­fare of the masses. He said that cor­rup­tion is the biggest hur­dle in the devel­op­ment of the coun­try and col­lec­tive ef­forts are needed by all seg­ments of the so­ci­ety for its elim­i­na­tion. -Pr
