Accord for hydropower project inked
MIRPUR: An agreement of Rs. 70.43 million was signed between Water & Power Development Authority ( WAPDA) and Harpo Hydropower Consultants a joint venture of three Pakistani and a German firms at WAPDA House late Monday for up gradation of f easibility study of Harpo Hydropower Project.
General Manager (Hydro) Planning Maqsood Shafique Qureshi and NDC Chief Executive Officer Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain signed the agreement on behalf of WAPDA and the joint venture respectively.
Feasibility study of the Project was c ompleted by WAPDA Hydro Pl a nning Organization with the technical collaboration of GTZ of Germany. KfW of Germany is providing grant for up gradation of feasibility study of the project.
KfW has also committed to provide finances for detailed engineering design and construction of the project after successful up gradation of the feasibility study, the sources told APP on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman WAPDA Shakil Durrani thanked Germany for providing the assistance, KfW in particular, for hydropower development in Pakistan. General Manager (Hydro) Planning briefed the participants of the ceremony that 33MW Harpo Hydropower Project is proposed to be constructed on Harpo Nullah, a left tributary of the River Indus in Rondu area of Skardu.
The project area is located 75 kms North-West of Skardu town and 670 kms NorthEast of Islamabad. The project, on its completion, is estimated to generate 187 million units of low-cost electricity per annum. -App
