200 abducted for ransom in 2010 in KP
PESHAWAR: As year 2010 heads towards its conclusion, the provincial police have registered 200 cases of kidnapping for ransom with 97 reportedly active kidnapper gangs in the provincial capital.
These groups work according to a well chalked out plan and have abducted over 200 people for ransom in t he outgoing year, police sources informed.
The exact figures of kidnapping are said to be much higher as not all are registered with the police.
Giving breakup of these kidnapping groups, the police sources informed that 87 groups are operative in Peshawar whereas 10 others were supporting these groups.
A total of 34 groups have been reported in Charsadda, two in Nowshera, seven in Swabi, 27 in Malakand, eight in Mansehra, four in Battagram, 23 in Kohat, six each in Hangu and Haripur five in Shangla, seven in Dir Lower, 43 in Bannu and 12 groups in D.I.Khan.
The police f urther i nformed t hat kidnapping groups in Dir were directly linked to terrorist organizations adding kidnapping for r ansom have become profitable business.
He said that VC Dr. Ajmal Khan, Dr. Intikhab Alam, Ex DCO Zain Khan and other people have been kidnapped for ransom in the outgoing year.
The process of negotiations were underway between the government and the kidnappers, who have demanded release of 40 miscreants and Rs.200 million for the release of Prof. Dr. Ajmal Khan, they confided. Moreover, unidentified armed men kidnapped a person on gunpoint in Quetta . According to police the gunmen kidnapped a person identified as Abdul Ghanni Kakar, a businessman and took him to known place. -App
