Christians playing important role in country's progress: CM
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Christian community is playing an important role in the progress and prosperity of Pakistan and there is no doubt about their love and patriotism with the country.
He said that Christian community rendered sacrifices in every hour of distress and did not hesitate to make any sacrifice for the security of the country. He said that the efforts of Christians for educate boy and girl students are laudable.
He was addressing a function of Christmas at Saint Thomas Centre, here. Quaid PML-N Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Provincial Minister for Minorities Affairs Kamran Michael, PML-N leader Syed Ghaus Ali Shah, Members National and Provincial Assemblies, Iranian Counsel Generl Ali Nikan, Bishop Azaar Martial and Bishop Dr. Michael Nazir besides a large number of Christian community attended the ceremony.
The Chief Minister said that he is feeling immense pleasure by participating in this august programme of Christmas and we are once again jointly celebrating this great event like the previous year. He said that both Bible and Holy Quran have clearly mentioned about the birth of Hazrat Essa (AS) and the Quran verifies all holy books of Allah Almighty.
He said that we believe in all Prophets and Hazrat Essa (AS) gave a lesson of love, affection and tolerance. He said that Christians are a peaceful community which is spreading the message of love in every nook and corner of the country.
He said that Punjab government took solid steps for the welfare of the minorities including Christian community. He said that notification had already been issued for the 5% quota of minorities in government jobs. Five thousand posts have been reserved for minorities in technical educational institutions and Rs 15 million have been given to TEVTA for this purpose, he added.
He said that grant has been enhanced from Rs 5 million to Rs 10 million for the scholarships of minority students, payment of fines for release of prisoners and for financial assistance of deserving families. He added that churches and temples are being constructed at a cost of crores of rupees besides financial assistance of Rs 5 million for Hindu families has been approved. -App
