Chris­tians play­ing im­por­tant role in coun­try's progress: CM

LA­HORE: Pun­jab Chief Min­is­ter, Muham­mad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Chris­tian com­mu­nity is play­ing an im­por­tant role in the progress and pros­per­ity of Pak­istan and there is no doubt about their love and pa­tri­o­tism with the coun­try.

He said that Chris­tian com­mu­nity ren­dered sac­ri­fices in ev­ery hour of dis­tress and did not hes­i­tate to make any sac­ri­fice for the se­cu­rity of the coun­try. He said that the ef­forts of Chris­tians for ed­u­cate boy and girl stu­dents are laud­able.

Quaid PML-N Mian Muham­mad Nawaz Sharif, Pro­vin­cial Min­is­ter for Mi­nori­ties Af­fairs Kamran Michael, PML-N leader Syed Ghaus Ali Shah, Mem­bers Na­tional and Pro­vin­cial As­sem­blies, Ira­nian Coun­sel Gen­erl Ali Nikan, Bishop Azaar Mar­tial and Bishop Dr. Michael Nazir be­sides a large num­ber of Chris­tian com­mu­nity at­tended the cer­e­mony.

The Chief Min­is­ter said that he is feel­ing im­mense plea­sure by par­tic­i­pat­ing in this au­gust pro­gramme of Christ­mas and we are once again jointly cel­e­brat­ing this great event like the pre­vi­ous year. He said that both Bi­ble and Holy Qu­ran have clearly men­tioned about the birth of Hazrat Essa (AS) and the Qu­ran ver­i­fies all holy books of Al­lah Almighty.

He said that we be­lieve in all Prophets and Hazrat Essa (AS) gave a les­son of love, af­fec­tion and tol­er­ance. He said that Chris­tians are a peace­ful com­mu­nity which is spread­ing the mes­sage of love in ev­ery nook and corner of the coun­try.

He said that Pun­jab govern­ment took solid steps for the wel­fare of the mi­nori­ties in­clud­ing Chris­tian com­mu­nity. He said that no­ti­fi­ca­tion had al­ready been is­sued for the 5% quota of mi­nori­ties in govern­ment jobs. Five thou­sand posts have been re­served for mi­nori­ties in tech­ni­cal ed­u­ca­tional in­sti­tu­tions and Rs 15 mil­lion have been given to TEVTA for this pur­pose, he added.

He said that grant has been en­hanced from Rs 5 mil­lion to Rs 10 mil­lion for the schol­ar­ships of mi­nor­ity stu­dents, pay­ment of fines for re­lease of pris­on­ers and for fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance of de­serv­ing fam­i­lies. He added that churches and tem­ples are be­ing con­structed at a cost of crores of ru­pees be­sides fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance of Rs 5 mil­lion for Hindu fam­i­lies has been ap­proved. -App
