Ma­ter­nal child health care project to be started

KARACHI: A post-flood ma­ter­nal child health­care project would be launched in seven dis­tricts of Sindh.

This was stated by the of­fi­cials of the Na­tional Trust for Pop­u­la­tion Wel­fare (NATPOW) on Thurs­day.

They pointed out that the Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer of NATPOW, Ifikhar Dur­rani, and its Di­rec­tor Pro­gramme and Devel­op­ment Dr. Nasser Mo­hyud­din, held a meet­ing with Sec­re­tary Sindh Pop­u­la­tion Wel­fare Depart­ment Rizwan Me­mon, Spe­cial Sec­re­tary Sindh Health Depart­ment, Ms. Seema Na­jeeb, Prin­ci­pal Of­fi­cer Pres­i­dent's Pri­mary Health Ini­tia­tive (PPHI) Syed Shahid Ali, and Pro­vin­cial Fi­nance Of­fi­cer and Ad­min­is­tra­tion Man­ager Sindh, Aj­mal Me­mon.

The main ob­jec­tives of the meet­ing was to in­tro­duce the NATPOW-UNFPA projects which are t o be l aunched through­out the coun­try. The of­fi­cials stated that the first project is " Post-flood Ma­ter­nal Child Health Care Project" which will op­er­ate in 20 dis­tricts of Pak­istan.

In Sindh this project will cover the seven dis­tricts, that i s, Kash­more, Ja­cob­a­bad, Shikarpur, Jamshoro, Badin, Thatta and Qam­bar.

They briefed the stake­hold­ers t hat Mil­len­nium Devel­op­ment Goals (MDGs) aim t o i mprove Ma­ter­nal Health (MDG-5) and Re­duce Child Mor­tal­ity (MDG-4), the par­ties are con­vinced t hat closer links and joint col­lab­o­ra­tion be­tween them would draw upon pro­vi­sion of Mother and Child Health­care Ser­vices, i nclud­ing Re­pro­duc­tive Health and Fam­ily Plan­ning ( RH& FP) and other, in the flood af­fected ar­eas by reach­ing the poor and needy peo­ple. -App
